For the past week, The ACA’s Chair Jen Hancock and Executive Director Warren Singh travelled across the province to engage in a productive dialogue with members and elected officials. They managed to travel to three different Albertan cities to discuss the issues and advancements that matter most to the Alberta construction industry.
The first stop was Red Deer, at Red Deer Polytechnic where they spoke to apprentices on the value of their education and work in building Alberta. The ACA understands that the work of apprentices in the skilled trades is a vital part of the industry, and talented tradespeople joining the workforce have the ability to collectively advance the sector in more ways than one. Apprentices not only directly impact Albertan’s quality of life by building essential infrastructure such as schools and hospitals, but they also have an incredible impact on the very social fabric of our province.
The next stop was celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Medicine Hat Construction Association (MHCA) at Medicine Hat College. They celebrating this historic anniversary on Apprenticeship Appreciation Day, alongside colleagues Francis Roy and Kenny Leon of the Canadian Construction Association (CCA).
Lastly, in Calgary, the ACA hosted Minister Of Advanced Education, Myles McDougall during a roundtable meeting. It was an informative discussion that provided all participants to exchange ideas on collaborative solutions to solve the industry’s most pressing workforce challenges.
Overall, these meetings were a demonstration on the importance of open conversation and discussion amongst actors with a common goal – advancing the Alberta construction industry to continuously grow for decades to come.
The ACA would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend these meetings and added to the ever-important dialogue.
