ACA recently announced our Digital Tradesperson program has begun accepting applications. This program provides trades professionals and skilled labourers in the Alberta construction industry with training in virtual design and construction (VDC) and building information modeling (BIM).
Training is targeted towards three different audiences including tradespeople transferring to VDC roles, trades people seeking to upskill to BIM or VDC, and exposing apprentices to these available programs.
Each program has a different learning path with either in person or online component which allows trades people to expand their understanding of the digital environment.
ACA has worked with the government to fund these positions as part of a pilot program that we have been developing with IMAGINiT and Almery since 2024.
ACA has been working directly with industry partners, to meet the growing need for digital skills in the construction trades. Our focus on work placement and on-the-job learning means that our participants get to quickly apply what they learn.
The program’s goal is to limit the economic and social barriers that keep people from fulfilling their working potential.
This represents a continuation of our workforce development pilot programs. This includes our Trade Pathways program which was launched in 2022.
The Trade Pathways program helps Albertans connect with COR-certified construction companies who are hiring. A program that seeks to remove barriers standing in the way of trades people from a career in construction. The program started in Edmonton but is now province wide.
The success of these programs has been built on working in step with the government, our local construction associations and members all of whom are very important to the overall success of the program. With their help we have been able to achieve a great deal of success.
These programs are an outgrowth of ACA’s desire to create good stable jobs for our workforce through training opportunities and support.
