Employment Standards

ACA Policy

We believe in strong, productive relationships between employers and employees, and, where appropriate, between their representatives.

ACA supports Alberta’s current employment standards and views them as generally effective. Any future changes should reduce administrative complexity, support flexible workplace arrangements, and prioritize mediation as the preferred method of resolving disputes.

Occupational Health & Safety Policy

The Association endorses the Alberta Construction Safety Association and recommends that all participants in the industry likewise support its programs as a means of safeguarding the health and safety of those who are involved in construction.

Parties should recognize that a culture of safety requires a partnership of shared responsibility. To be successful, this culture requires an ongoing shared commitment to safety by three partners ‐ employers, individual personnel on jobsites, and the provincial government for regulatory enforcement.

WCB Policy

WCB premiums should be set on an actuarially sound basis so current premiums fully cover the net present value of current and future claim costs, as well as WCB and Appeals Commission administration. Any investment returns that exceed these costs should be returned to employers.

There are several policies regarding the Workers’ Compensation Board. Read ACA’s full policy on WCB, which encapsulates the core of what we feel the WCB should represent.
