Physical Demands Analysis (PDA)

A Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) breaks down every task in a position – the time spent on each and the fitness-related hazards involved. PDAs clearly define the physical requirements needed for a worker to safely perform specific duties.

By using standardized PDAs, employers can:

  • Match the right workers to the right jobs
  • Support safe and timely return-to-work for injured workers
  • Avoid the cost of developing a new PDA when one is required by WCB, by using the ACA PDA as an industry standard

As WCB Alberta notes:

“Use the physical demands analysis in your organization to reduce the risk of injury and identify appropriate return-to-work options. Share the physical demands analysis with health care professionals and/or claim owners to help recovery, return to work and minimize costs.”
