Skilled Labour Immigration
Alberta’s construction industry faces a demographic challenge, with one in five tradespeople expected to retire within the next decade. While the apprenticeship system remains strong, apprentices depend on experienced journey persons for mentorship. Immigration is part of an essential effort to fill immediate skill gaps and ensure long-term workforce stability.
AAIP Expansion
ACA recommends that federal and provincial governments expand and streamline immigration programs for tradespeople through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) and federal skilled trades streams, accelerate recognition of international credentials, align immigration intake with training priorities, and support integration programs that match newcomers with employers and safety training opportunities.
