The ACA’s 2025 Annual report is a look at how the ACA and our members worked together to further realize our mission of the unification of Alberta’s construction industry, while fostering collaboration, supporting local construction associations, and advocating for sustainable growth.
2025 was a widely successful year for the ACA, featuring useful advancements in all aspects of Alberta’s construction industry – from sustainability, to government advocacy, and more. Some highlights include:
- The launching of 3 new ACA Committees: Government Advocacy, Workforce and Safety, and Innovation and Sustainability.
- Workforce development: Done through the ACA’s Digital Skills Training Program and matching over 450 participants with over 70 employers through the Trade Pathways Program.
- Major updates to the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act (PPCLA) and the Public Works Act (PWA) which improve upon standard payment timelines across both private and public projects, strengthening adjudication, and clarifying lien and holdback rules. Updates were also made to the Prompt Payment Plain Language Guides in the Fall.
- Cultivating and maintaining important dialogue with provincial decision-makers spanning multiple ministries throughout 2025.
When describing the work of the ACA in 2025, our Chair, Jen Hancock, said, “Our advocacy work was non-partisan and productive. Whether navigating uncertainty in federal and provincial trade dynamics or advancing procurement reform at the legislature, ACA remained a consistent presence. Relationships built over years with ministers, officials, and partner associations ensured that our industry had a seat at the table. That access does not happen by accident. It is earned through preparation and a reputation for bringing solutions”.
Looking ahead to 2026, the ACA will be focused on further strengthening communication and engagement with the industry, government officials, and decision-makers to ensure the collective voice of Alberta’s construction industry is heard. Our advocacy priorities remain steadfast, concentrating on predictable long-term capital funding, fair procurement and contracting practices, and more, as outlined in our Annual Report. The ACA looks forward to the rest of 2026, eager to face the challenges ahead, backed by the invaluable support of our members and strong, lasting focus on advocacy, workforce development, and industry excellence.
