ACA August Construction Industry Statistics Package

ACA’s Construction Industry Statistics Package is a monthly updated industry resource that gives readers an informative overview of the current state of Alberta’s construction sector. The package provides a comprehensive snapshot of Alberta’s economic landscape, from GDP to the value of proposed projects across the province.

August’s edition highlights several key statistical changes, including increases in the value of Alberta’s proposed construction projects.

Notably, since our last release, BuildForce has published an updated report covering Alberta’s construction forecast from 2026-2035 which contained several important updates on the predicted number of retirees to the number of females in the construction workforce.

Below are some of August’s key updates since the release of our last package:

  • The value of proposed construction projects increased from $303 billion to $317.9 billion, with roughly $15.6 billion worth of projects added in since our last package publication. Notable projects include the upgrades to Calgary’s Olympic Park worth approximately $52 million, and the Dunmore Wastewater project.
  • The number of expected retirements by 2035 is now estimated to be 43,700, as opposed to the 43,400 in the last BuildForce report.
  • Also, according to BuildForce’s 2026 report, the number of female skilled tradespeople has risen from around 12,710 or 7% of all skilled tradespeople in their 2025 report, to 15,280 or 8%.

Other statistical variations since last month’s package include the average weekly wages of full-time construction workers, decreasing from $1,717 down to $1,697. Notably, the number of construction workers in the province rose from 274,400 to 287,100 month-over-month, representing a year-over-year increase of 10.5%.
